Animal cruelty is one of the big issues in the world right now. But it is great that now people are finally raising their voices against the wrongs they witness. So, recently people witness animal cruelty on their way to Chardham. Some people also made videos to raise their voices against it.

One video caught the attention of people and spread over the internet like anything in which two men were forcefully making horse smoke weed on the trek. This video really disturbed people because it somehow questions the relationship between animals and humans. Earlier the relationship between them was described with the words like compassion and love but now unfortunately it is cruelty.

In increasing time, the number of animal cruelty is growing very fast. Forcefully giving them drugs is one thing, they are even beaten to death and even starved to death. The data on the death of mules and horses in different dhams are provided in the table given below.

No. of Mules and Horses Died Region
90 Kedarnath
17 Yamunotri and Gangotri
8 Badrinath

The total no. of death trolls in the last month is 115 (according to the data available in the Uttrakhand animal husbandry department), which is way too much. But there are actions that are being taken officially against this animal cruelty in holy places like Chardham.

Actions taken against Animal Cruelty:

A new rule has been added for the horse and mule owners in order to reduce the number of death of horses and mules. The rules say that only 4500 to 5000 horses or mules are allowed to run per day.  Before this rule, more than 8000 horses and mules used to run per day and used to overwork without having a nutritious meal. The rule was made in order to provide a more relaxing time for horses and mules.

This rule not only provides rest to the animals but will also provide a sufficient way for the people who want to do their yatra on their feet. The rule was made by the officials after learning about the increasing number of deaths of animals during the yatra.

Other rules that come under animal cruelty are-

Overloading any animal.

If the animal is disabled and you are still making him work.

Making the old animal work.

Making the injured animal work.

Not providing sufficient and nutritious food.

Not proving warm water.

Making them work without providing sufficient rest.

Conclusion:

So this is what was happening in holy places like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. If you are someone who doesn’t support such cruelty then you should simply help and contribute by trekking to our holy places on your own foot. This is the least you can do to help voiceless creatures on Earth. If you are planning to do Chardham Yatra then the only advice for you is that do online Chardham Hotel Booking. And enjoy the religious places there. Hope you find this blog informative and you will contribute in saving these poor voiceless animals.
